Quintero is in almost all the other top 100 I see (at least the one's I consider worth their salt). What keeps him out here? Lack of historical information?
Nothing really keeps him off the list. He was in heavy consideration and is listed as an honourable mention. I like the approach and the power ceiling. Some hit tool and defensive concerns dinged him a bit. He could slot into that final bunch of position players without a hassle
I’m always fascinated by evaluators who view some prospects so differently compared to their industry counterparts. Ex: Walked Jenkins, by fantasy prospects, is a consensus top 10-15 guy. I’ve never seen him lower than 20. Seems like a guy like Emmanuel Rodríguez should be dinged for health more than Jenkins. Same with DeLauter or even Marcelo Mayer.
The underlying numbers aren't bad, but the lack of power and poor plate discipline kept him off the list. The speed and defense could make him dependable 4th OF
Yes. That ties into his power metrics. It will be tough to carve out a role when you hit ground balls a ton, and even worse when there is not much juice behind them
I think you straight up forgot Braden Montgomery. For him to be omitted in HM when he’s on every other fantasy top 100 list seems to be a sign he was just forgotten.
Braden Montgomery was not forgotten. I have concerns about his hit tool which kept him off the list. I would not be opposed to including him as an HM. Also, my list is not geared toward fantasy baseball
Great stuff! I am curious as to your thoughts on Ryan Sloan who you have in the 40s compared to Braylon Doughty while they have both displayed very comparable numbers and are the same age.
Also would like to hear your thoughts on Ralphy Velazquez, who has probably been the hottest bat in the minors over the last few months. Exit velos and bat speed are great, and his approach and batted ball profile seems quite advanced for a 20 year old.
Doughty was in consideration for the Top 100. The key difference between Doughty and Sloan for me is the breaking balls. Sloan's slider (and cutter) have done a much more effective job at shutting down hitters than Doughty's curveball. I do like Doughty's ability to spin the ball, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's effectiveness greatly improves within the next year. I also think Sloan has edge between the changeups.
Ralphy Velazquez is also a very intriguing name. He could sit in that backend group and I wouldn't be opposed. The selectively aggressive approach is awesome and his power metrics are all plus. The speed and defense are not the greatest, which held back his overall profile. Nonetheless, a really exciting bat

Yeah, I saw him. In the "Interesting Power," section? Something like that.
Thank you for the reply.

Any belief Justin Crawford can continue to be an impact player in the big leagues or are the underlying numbers that bad?

Isn’t his GB% still in the 60%s?
Yes. That ties into his power metrics. It will be tough to carve out a role when you hit ground balls a ton, and even worse when there is not much juice behind them

Actually you've made a pretty big mistake. You failed to properly note at the beginning how awesome and informative this would be.

How do you go about doing defensive evaluations? Especially for a pool of players this large
A mix of film review and reading scouting reports
